Ottawa Improv POLL

The Canadian Improv Games’ Ottawa Regional Tournament WILL NOT BE IN THE ROUND. Generally speaking, audiences and former players thought it was a great idea while current players did not. Even if the poll showed the majority of people wanted it in the round, if the players didn’t, that’s what matters. If you were on a team of 8 players and just one was uncomfortable with the idea, though could be enough to throw off your game. So, this experiment has come to a close. Thank you for your responses and comments. We will see you in the Studio of the NAC next week!

This year, CIG Ottawa is presented with an interesting opportunity. The Studio, where we will be performing Feb 21-25, is currently set up In the Round or “Arena style” for the show Creation which closes right before the Tournament. The National Arts Centre has asked us if we’d be interested in playing in this configuration. Playing in the round has some advantages and disadvantages, but one thing is for sure: it is a unique opportunity. The studio hasn’t been set up this way for over 12 years for any show, and very few improv shows anywhere get the chance to play in a space like this.

So, we put the question to you. Please vote and comment on why you think playing in the round is a good thing or a bad thing.

Here are photos of the space as it is now. Please note that for the Canadian Improv Games, there would be NO RAISED STAGE and another row of seats in the front of all sides. Capacity would be the same as usual (300+) however the farthest seats would only be 5 rows back.

Kingston Gears Up for Winter Workshops!

Winter Workshops are approaching with cheetah-like speeds… and we’re so excited to give you all the details!

Winter Workshops will be taking place at Queens University Theological Hall on December 10th, 2011!
Registration for workshops begins at 9:00 am!

December 9th and December 10th is your first chance to get a look at your fabulous teams!

Join us for not one- but TWO- nights of play, on December 9th and 10th in the Rotunda Theatre of Queens University!
Play begins at 7:00p.m so get there with plenty of time to get your tickets and get into the Improv spirit!

Regional Tournament Information

NEXT ACT EAST & WEST PACKED WITH TALENT FOR 2011!

Next Act East and West are filled up with some truly talented emerging improvisers.Combined with the veteran talent of the directors selected for these festivals the shows are going to spectacular!

Out EAST May 31st to June 4th in Montreal Kirsten Rasmussen and Al Connors will be calling Montreal Improv’s theatre on St Lauren home for the week as they teach the following amazing cast: Nicholas Parsons, Lukas Conway, Rebecca Guilderson, Michelle Hart, Jordy Paul – Fontaine, Stephanie Foran, Tom Hearn, Nick Harvey Cheetham,
Michael Hammond, Lara Gordon, Jennifer Ferris, Alanna Dickinson,
Jeff Donaldson, Aidan Shenkman, Mike Fardy and Haley Guest. What an amazing amount of talent to introduce to a truly fantastic city.

Out West the Next Act festival will be calling the Instant Shop home for the week of July 5th to 9th. Lee White, Shawn Norman and Alistair Cook will be getting the opportunity to work with the stellar cast including: Jordan Boivin, Sarah Szloboda, Jesse McPhee, Joleen Balentine, Jullian Kolstee, Caitlin Curtis, Gordie Lucious, Jenna Briscoe, Ange Cullen, Katy Bennett, Andrew Chen and Kai Rudell. All of the performances out west will be held at the Carousel Studio thursday to Saturday, see you there!!!

IMPROVCAMP CRAZY GREAT FOR 2011!

The Canadian Improv Games are proud to announce that the Improvcamp will be delighted to receive well over 125 campers this year! Luckily the Camp Fircom facility will allow for two venues so campers will actually get even more stage time than last year! Thats not all that is brand new at Fircom they have a great new dining hall, newly renovated workshop rooms, TEEPEE CABINS and an amazingly redeveloped landscape. ITS GOING TO BE AMAZING!

Rene Dellefont, Alistair Cook and 23 other amazing staff members are excited to put all of these fine improvisers through their paces this august 24-31 on Gambier Island BC!

See you all this summer, and if not… see you NEXT SUMMER AT THE BEST CAMP EVER!
